演講摘要:
Like most things that happen online, video games are often seen as a waste of time because they make you fat, lonely, and unambitious. In contrast, sports is highly valued because it makes you healthy, requires teamwork, and teaches you to be successful. In this talk, we examine the literature in psychology and anthropology to understand what kind of experiences people find meaningful. 'Real life' - a life full of meaning, fulfillment, and comradeship with others -- does not have to be a life spend 'face to face'. It can happen online as well. Once we realize this, we can see that life online is not always bad, and life in the 'real world' is not always good. More important is the quality of experience you have, whether than experience happens online or off.
