This seminar deals with how cultural anthropologists collect, describe, analyze and interpret or explain cultural and social phenomena. It deals with research methods and analytic paradigms that were developed since anthropology become a formal discipline. We will use classic ethnographies to exemplify the research methods used by various practitioners and the paradigms they employed. Student completed this seminar will gain a sound footing on developmental history of cultural anthropology as well as a good understanding of the fundamental issue, i.e. whether cultural anthropology is a discipline of social sciences or a branch of humanities.
