講題摘要:
This talk argues for developing deeper attunements to the underside of "the Global" in supply chain capitalism, especially in light of an intensifying "Chips War" that recasts the value and risks of Asian mobilities in people, technology, expertise and capital. Drawing on ethnographic examples from over two decades of fieldwork on
transnational circulation, infrastructure and logistics between China and the U.S., this talk will combine insights from a Western mode of "Gothic" critical inquiry with Chinese vernacular understandings of "the deeply Yin" (陰深深) dimensions of the Global. Inspired by recent U.S. efforts to "ghost" China in the reshoring of digital supply chains, this talk considers the conceptual and methodological challenges for engaging the various "Asian" specters driving contemporary anxieties over the instabilities and possible unraveling of economic prosperity,
social cohesion and planetary wellbeing.
