Indigenous Peoples and the State
Dr. Kun-Hui Ku
This seminar examines the relationships between the indigenous peoples and the state in Taiwan through historical periods, situating it in the settler colonial contexts. Historical reflection on the changing relationship between the indigenous peoples and the state equipped students to explain the contemporary dilemma faced by the indigenous people worldwide. With the concept of transitional justice emerging in Taiwan and elsewhere, this seminar will draw on materials and experiences in other Fourth World to compare with these of Taiwan indigenous peoples and seek to advance a better path forward.
